~ welcome ~
Dearest Members of the Fertile Grounds Community
After five seasons of hard work, abundance, and tremendous community support, we've decided to scale back quite a bit at Fertile Grounds for 2016. We'll still be growing a lot of beautiful garlic and herbs, but we'll be passing the torch on our CSA to the wonderful folks at Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative (LFFC), who will be offering CSA memberships in the Wilkes-Barre and Scranton areas beginning this season.
Basically, LFFC partners with over 100 certified organic Pennsylvania growers, and they create their CSA boxes from that abundance. This means that their CSA members have the opportunity to purchase veggie boxes like Fertile Grounds has always offered - along with meat, eggs, honey, flowers, herbs - you get the idea. We've been mutual fans and supporters for years. LFFC's CSA boxes have often included Fertile Grounds' garlic scapes, garlic, kale, etc., and ours have sometimes been supplemented by their awesome rhubarb, carrots, etc. LFFC is doing amazing work in terms of supporting Pennsylvania's organic farmers, and this kind of aggregating of many farms' products is often the most financially sustainable route for all involved. Moreover, we trust the quality of their produce and other products.
If you have already signed up for Fertile Grounds 2016 season, your membership will be cancelled; if we already processed your payment, it will be refunded by March 10.
You will be receiving another email within the next two weeks, letting you know more info about LFFC's local distribution spots and how and where you can sign up for LFFC's 2016 CSA season if you'd like to do so. In the meantime, feel free to check out their website and Facebook page - but do know that local distribution spots will not be listed for another week or so.
In brief, thank you. You are a member of the beloved community that has welcomed and encouraged local, organic farming over the past five years. Along with our friends at Dancing Hen, Old Tioga Farm, Forks Farm, and The Lands at Hillside Farms, you have helped us get the ball rolling on building a local, organic farming movement that is long overdue, much needed, and hopeful. Please, check out what the farms listed above have to offer for the 2016 season.
Most importantly, if you have been a CSA member and/or a volunteer at our work days, our biggest thanks go to you. You have sustained and inspired us. And we hope we've done the same for you.
All the best,
